Giving The Aussies Assistance

Stuart Clark, a man who haunted England on our ill-fated tour to Australia in 2006-7, has been injured with an elbow problem. When he comes back from this injury, he’ll obviously be a bit rusty and need considerable match practice to get back up to speed in time for the Ashes. Meanwhile England will be preparing for the biggest series in the cycle by participating in a 20 over hit-and-giggle fest designed to sort out who can hit the ball the furthest over kiddie boundaries….

Anyway, if this were Harmison, and this were an Ashes tour to Australia, do you think Queensland would be giving the player much needed match practice at The Gabba? Would Victoria be tripping over themselves to let Flintoff rehabilitate himself. No, of course not. But in England we don’t care. There you go Kent. Nice one. Thanks a bunch.

And no, this is not the jealous rantings of a Surrey fan who has found out that our overseas player is going to be Grant Elliott. Christ on a bike, he’ll be a star. The Surrey fans must be jumping up and down in delight, really they must. I haven’t been so excited since they told me we’d signed Chris Lewis for the 20/20.

But if Clark does succeed in the Ashes, I won’t be forgiving Kent their traitorous short-termism. Grant Elliott…. (grrrrrrrrr)

  1. Quite agree…we did this last year with South Africa and always give the Aussies a cracking opportunity to aclimatise…compare that to that itinery of 06/7…Brisbane and Taz!

  2. In the build up to that series, NSW came out and said if they won the toss, they would try and bat for 4 days to esnure England got as little time in the middle as possible.

That’s what the aussie do to try and help you aclimatise. We had it to them on a plate, shame on kent. I’m ashamed to have been born there. Luckily, I’m from closer to the Oval than St Lawrence. (we’ll keep quiet about the fact that my home town hosts a Kent cricket week).
