Ah yes, I reported that we had just snaffled the 8th wicket off the Derbyshire Also Rans, and had the lead at a mere 59. I’ve just looked to see how the innings fared, and well…. it wasn’t that great.
Derbyshire lost wicket number 9 soon after, but it appears after that, to quote the Old Josephians parlance to have been a bit of a “Jakki Brambles”. That got you in there Statto! For it looks as though Greg Smith found an ally in Ian Hunter who made a brisk 47 batting at number 11. He did this in 52 balls, while Smith took his score up to 94 when Hunter lost his wicket. Pedro Collins picking up a 5 wicket haul, something he did not do when part of my fantasy team last season, the eejit. Derbyshire made 274, which leaves Surrey, who chose to bat first, to make 143 to even force Derbyshire to pad up next time around. The weather is set fair. The Ego’s exposure to a Mushtaq Ahmed-less team becomes more stark. Ain’t so easy, is it Ego?
Ah yes, remember it well. You and I spectating on a quiet bench in the evening sun at Purley on Thames. What a Jakki Brambles!!
