A number of the potential batsmen lined up for The Oval are in action today. At 12 noon, some of the names mentioned have been and gone.

Michael Carberry made a 41 ball 23 at Basingstoke, but he’s gone.

Stephen Moore made a 44 ball 28, but was dismissed by Robin Martin-Jenkins.

Joe Denly of Kent made 15 before he went. Rob Key is currently 17 not out.

Ian Bell and Jonathan Trott are in the field at Trent Bridge. Not the easiest batting venue for them to establish their credentials (though not as bad as last year).

Ravi Bopara is in the field at Lord’s against Middlesex, as is Alastair Cook. I am surprised Collingwood hasn’t gone back to his county….
