For those uninitiated to this blog, The Swimming Award goes to the man who hits the fastest test century in terms of balls faced in this calendar year. The award is so named because in Perth in 2006, the weather was so damned hot, and the England performance so listless, that we returned to our hotel, and the ice cold swimming pool, rather than stay for the post-tea session. As we left the WACA I remember saying to my colleagues “this is the sort of situation where Adam Gilchrist could go pot-pot. I hope we don’t miss anything great.”
He then went on to score the second fastest century of all time in terms of balls faced while I chilled out in a lovely pool about 400 metres away. Hence “The Swimming Award”.
Century #8 – David Warner – full details to follow but he brought his hundred up in 69 balls. The previous leader was Jacques Kallis who brought his up in 114 deliveries against Sri Lanka.
